Walk 1: Skopelos Harbour to Agios Constantinos and back

Skopelos Harbour to Agios Constantinos -  following  donkey paths and visit Glifoneri beach

Dont’ forget water, a snack and suntan lotion and you should wear  a hat and good walking shoes with socks. Time needed: about 3 hours

Starting point: At the end of the harbor where you see a church on a rock.

From the church you walk up to the top of the town to the Kastro (the castle) always keeping the sea to your right. Behind the castle is a small playground and a long but not so wide car park.

Follow the cars that are parked there to where the road is forked. Look at the road signs on your right and choose the direction Glifoneri. The road to it is going down towards the sea and towards the Glifoneri beach.

Photo 2

As you are walking down you will see on our left hand side an abandoned taverna called Remetzo. To the right of it is a big pile with wood for a fire place. Walk in between the taverna and the wood pile towards an old donkey paved path called Kalderimi

The word kalderimi comes from the Turkish word Kaldirim which means pavement or sidewalk.

Enjoy the walk up and don’t forget to admire the view towards the sea. You are walking in between pieces of farmland with, sometimes, a small farmhouse build on it

(called kalivi) You will pass a lovely church with a courtyard called Agios( saint) Constantinos.

At the top when you reach the asphalt road please turn right and continue for a bit on the right side of the road and follow one bend in the road.

Photo 4

When you reach the second bend you will see on your left hand side the entrance to the second kalderimi

Photo 5

Walk up the kalderimi and after a couple of meters there is a small path going to the right. This path leads to the small church of Agios Ilias. The church is probably not open. The reason for this is because people started stealing icons when visiting the churches and now they are all locked and only opened on request. Look at the view though!!!

When leaving the field where the church is turn right and immediately walk down a stone staircase with a small cross on the side.

Going down the stone steps with the small cross turn left when you reach the asphalt and follow the road until you reach a dirt road on your left.

Photo 7

Walk up this dirt road and continue walking. You are walking on a path in between olive trees and the views are amazing. First it is uphill and then slowly downhill. Going down you will pass a renovated farmhouse on your right. There is a friendly dog there but it is barking because it hears strangers passing by.

A little bit lower down on your left is a small house and just after that you are back on the asphalt road.

Just below the asphalt road you will see the entrance to the kalderimi that you already walked on earlier. Walk down this path again. You turn left when you reach the abandoned taverna and the pile of wood and you will pass Stella’s taverna (delicious local food) Continue down the road until you reach the beach of Glifoneri. Take a swim if you like. Walking up the road you will reach the castle and Skopelos town again.
